Operating principle of a classical system
Classical stand-alone systems generate electricty in direct current (DC) with the help of photovoltaic modules. This energy is then directly stored in batteries. Their load is controlled by a solar controller. The inverter converts the stored DC energy (12, 24 or 48V) into 230V alternating current (AC) in order to supply electricity to the connected consumers.
Why alternating-current connections?
Amplification and the type of connection are important aspects for the individual components of stand-alone electrical systems. With direct-current connections it is very easy to amplify the system, not only on the energy generation side (solar, wind, hydro, diesel ...), but also on the consumption side.
Revolutionary operating principle from SMA: modular connection of all components on the AC side
The main inverter (Sunny Island) is connected to a battery and creates a AC grid in the stand-alone grid.
The inverter regulates output and frequency in the AC grid. The consumers as well as the generators are directly connected to the AC grid. The inverter is capable of controlling the power flow by varying the grid frequency. In cases of excessive generation of energy (e.g. high solar radiation and litte consumption), the Sunny Island uses this surplus energy from the AC grid and charges the batteries. In cases of too little generation of energy (little or no solar radiation and high consumption), the Sunny Island uses the energy saved in the batteries and provides the missing energy to the AC grid.
As soon as the batteries do not have enough energy or an increased consumption takes place, the inverter automatically starts the diesel generator. It is possible to install single-phased systems with up to 4 inverters in parallel.
- Max. output of battery inverters 26 kW (30 min) - Max. output of diesel generator 50 kW - Max. output of renewables to be used 40 kW It is possible to install three-phase systems with inverters and an individual storage system (clusters) and connect a total power of up to 100 kW.
- Number of inverters : 6 / 9 / 12
- Max. output of the battery inverters 30 / 45 / 60 kWnom - Max. output of the renewables to be installed 55 / 86 / 110 kWnom - Max. output of the diesel generator 55 / 86 / 110 kWnom. - Flexible from 30 kW to 100 kW |
